Basic Bitch 101
- October 12, 2018
Hi, I’m Ranja and I’m a basic bitch. I love my skinny jeans, my Starbucks and my trendy bags. I love edgy fashion, but more often than not, I’ll dress up in stuff from H&M and Forever 21 cuz I need my kidneys too much to sell them off just yet, for some really cool clothes.
Being a basic bitch doesn’t mean that I lack originality or style. It means that I know what’s trending and I know how to make it look good on me. It means that I know what I like and I do not need validation from others. It means that I am my own person, which makes me one of a kind, despite my fashion or beverage choices.
So, today, I decided to provide you with a Basic Bitch 101 lesson.
- Always make sure your outfit ticks the 3 C’s :
- Is it Comfy?
- Is it Cute?
- Is it Cheap? (depends on your budget)
The reason stores like H&M, Forever 21, and Zara exist, is so that they can translate couture into something that can be consumed by the public, aka, you and me. It’s because of basic bitches like you and me that the fashion industry has evolved from being scary and unrelatable to an essential component of everyone’s lives. So be proud to be a basic bitch. Some people look only at the price tags; some only care if a dress is cute; others dress only for the sake of comfort and utility. Be proud of the fact that we basic bitches have the ability to look at all the different aspects of buying an outfit, where you end up with a look that is totally Insta-worthy, WITHOUT having to distort your body to fit into it or having to sell a lung and half to afford it.
2. Invest in accessories:
If you’re gonna splurge, do so on accessories. The life-span of an accessory like a bag or a pair of shoes is far longer than that of a piece of clothing. Also, if you put on a little winter weight, or lose a little bit of weight, it won’t affect your accessories cuz baby they gonna fit you no matter what. Also, a good accessory can elevate your look from a 5 to a 10 with legit no effort. See how my actual outfit was just a black linen shirt and a pair of acid-wash jeans? I could wear just that to work or to class. But, let’s be honest, it wouldn’t be Insta-worthy. So, I jazzed it up with a pair of hand-painted Yves Saint Laurent lace-up boots. Boots like these might cost a pretty penny, but they’re versatile, they’re classic, and my god they can survive fucking WARS.
3. Your outfit should always have a pop of colour:
Take your look from meh to daaaamn, by simply adding a pop of colour. I went with my classic, yet trendy pink quilted sling bag to really chic this bish upppp. Wearing colour is a super easy but fool-proof way to always nail an Insta-worthy look.
4. Know what’s happening in the fashion world:
See how I’m carrying that tiny ass bag like a cross-body instead of like a sling bag? If you’ve followed any fashion news at ALL in the past year or so, you’ve probably seen how many fashion influencers carry basic sling bags like cross-body bags. It’s practical, AND it’s trendy. AND it’s a super easy way to chic up your outfit, and look like a fashun pro. It’s little tricks like this that will help you truly stand out as a badass basic bitch.
So, that’s all for our first lesson at Basic Bitch 101. I’ll be back with more awesome tips to help you evolve from a beginner BB to a BB expert. Until then, binge on all the frappucinos you want, buy all the booties, and be inspired by as many fashion trends as you like. But most importantly, do not ever let another person make you feel bad for being who you are. Because you are a one-of-a-kind work of fucking art, regardless of whether you shop at H&M or not.
