PALAZZ-OH SO SEXAY
- August 01, 2017
Palazzos have taken the fashion scene by storm. And for good reason too!!! They are comfy AND sexy! Unfortunately for me, I have wide hips and thick thighs. So finding palazzos that fit me well and didn’t make me feel unattractive, was quite the task. I went EVERYWHERE. I tried on cotton palazzos, linen palazzos, chiffon palazzos (yep) and finally settled on this synthetic pair from Zara.
To be honest, it was the fact that the pants had vertical stripes, that made me want to try them on in the first place. For as long as I can remember, I have heard and read about how vertical stripes will make you look thinner and horizontal stripes will make you look fat. Now that I’ve tried on vertical stripes as well, I CALL BULLSHIT. I love wearing horizontal stripes (I have a gajillion dresses and tops with horizontal stripes) and they don’t make me look fat. And the vertical stripes do not make me look thin. True, if you start at the bottom and slowly gaze upwards, you’d think that I was super tall BUT NOBODY DOES THAT. So, this baby-rant was to just tell you that I think the stripe controversy is a big bag of poop and that if you find a super pretty dress with horizontal stripes and you think you look pretty in it but don’t think you should buy it because somebody told you that horizontal stripes will make you look fat, well…go ahead and buy it okay?
That being said, these pants are sexy as hell. I love wearing them! They make me feel like I’m some incredibly important person who has places to be and things to do (hahahahhahahaha). Actually, it’s an excellent pair for an office party or even to wear to college. You could wear a simple button-down shirt with it (roll up them sleeves kay), to work and then throw on a sexy statement necklace or a cuff-bracelet and it’s a brilliant day-to-night look (in case you have somewhere to be but don’t have time to change).
The only problem with something so flowy is, if you’re not very tall, then you might drown in these pants. But don’t worry, I have a couple of tricks to avoid being overwhelmed by a pair of pants. The most important thing is to make sure they fit you right. Don’t buy a size too big because you think you’ll feel more comfortable in it. If you think that a certain pair isn’t fitting you right, but the next size is a little too baggy, then go to another shop (because there are billion different styles in a trillion different shops so don’t lose hope), or if possible, try to get the pair tailored to fit you.
Another trick would be to wear heels with palazzos. That way they won’t get under your feet when you walk and trip you up or worse, tear. I know, I know, heels can be intimidating, but I’m not asking you to wear 6-inch stilettos. Try a pair of cute wedges or platforms. If you want to go for something a little less feminine, there are so many sneakers and slip-ons with platform bases, so go ahead and try on something like that. The pair I’m wearing, are from Miss Selfridge. They’re a little heavy, so you’ll have to wear them a couple of times before you get used to the feeling, but they’re super comfy. They’re cleated block-heel platforms, so they’re pretty much the most comfortable pair of heels you can think of buying. The sole of the shoes are not cushioned, so if you might want to buy some gel cushions to avoid any possible pain. Other than that the shoes are well worth the money I spent on them. They are clunky and fun and are excellent for someone with feet as broad as mine.
When you’re wearing something as basic and plain as black and white stripes, you have to remember to add little quirky elements to elevate the look and make it fun and youthful. So I decided to carry this fringed bag from H&M’s new collection. It’s in a light nude shade with tons of pockets inside it and a braided strap. The bag isn’t very big so it doesn’t have space for all my junk but is a nice piece to carry when you’re going out for brunch, or drinks, or just to hang out with friends. It has just enough space for your phone, purse, a couple of makeup items, a charger, keys, and maybe a couple more items. Also, IT IS SO MUCH FUN PLAYING WITH THE FRINGES IT’S LIKE PLAYING WITH HAIR.
Speaking of hair, I decided that my green hair was another quirky element in my ensemble. That’s why I didn’t wear any jewellery this time. I wanted to keep the look work-chic, with a hint of fun in it. You can decide for yourself, what kind of a look you want to create because a pair of palazzos can be incredibly versatile. You could pair it with a button-down for a very basic office look. You could wear some thing like my simple black v-neck top from H&M for a more off-duty look. You could throw on a cuff or a necklace for something a little more casual-chic. You could don a pair of gorgeous dangly earrings and a set of chunky rings for a “night-out” look. The beauty of something so simple is that there is something for everybody and you can experiment and mix and match till you find the look that is as gorgeous as you.
Nooowwww time for the makeup bit yaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyy.
Last month I went nuts and bought a buttload of makeup and I’m in love with all of it. I finally bought a Naked palette from Urban Decay (Naked 1). It is the most amazing thing ever and it has just raised my eyeshadow game to a whooooole other level. Not only that, they even give you a set of primer samples, which will honestly last me almost a year. For this look, I went for a dusky rose shade, with a shiny base. I used the darkest shades on the palette on the corners of my eyes and the lightest shade on the arch of my brows and on the inner corner of my eyes (highlighting). I used the H&M dip-liner in “jet black” to draw a sleek wing on either eye and finished the look with tons of mascara. The dip-liner is an absolute godsend. It is super pigmented and dries up incredibly fast. I used a combination of two mascaras this time, both from L’Oreal. I used the Miss Hippie Mascara and the False Lash Flutter Mascara for this look. The Hippie Mascara is pretty volumizing but I absolutely love the brush of the False Lash Mascara (it is incredibly lengthening).
For the base of my makeup, I just used a basic primer, my Clinique Stay-matte Foundation, a Dior sample concealer and setting powder from MAC and L’Oreal. On my lip, I’m wearing a Dior lipstick from them matte “Diorific” collection in the shade “023 Diorella”. It is a nude-pink shade with just a hint of sheen. The texture of the lipstick is probably the best I’ve ever come across. It is super moisturizing (which is excellent news for something with lips as dry as mine), so I barely ever need to touch up. I even added a little touch of purple on the corners of my mouth to make the pout more prominent (I used my L’Oreal Infallible Matte lipstick in the shade “I Gotta Feeling”).
